THE GRANDCHILD HAS ARRIVED!

Image
It's a BOY! And he is a little late, so follows the pattern of other men in the family.... But he is beautiful, healthy and we are so pleased that he is finally here.  We drove the 9 hours out to visit and help out, arriving the evening of the day Mom and baby were released from the hospital.  I was expecting to do laundry, shop, fix meals, fetch and carry.... but actually did very little of any of those things.  My Daughter-in-law is a steamroller and was not about to sit around and rest.  She was up and going the second day home.  I DID make her let me drive, but we were out of the house the very next day, going to the pediatrician's for a weigh-in (typically, baby had lost weight and was not an eager eater, so they wanted to keep an eye on his weight gain), and after a rest back home, Mama and I were off to the grocery store.  I asked her to just make a list and I would go do the shopping, but she said she wanted to go.... so what am I to do????

WINTER

Image
This is an older post that I started and must have been called away..  Tonight I found it AFTER I posted my March offering and finished it off.  Here it is out of sequence - and I hope the videos work! (Mid February) UGH... We have finally been hit by Old Man Winter.  The month of February has been terribly cold and we have had more snow.... though nothing like last year's fantastic amounts. One good blizzard left our street looking like this: Actually, I think this photo was taken a few days after a storm, and the reason for this picture was the hoar frost on the trees.  Don't worry, we got more snow.... but after years of taking pictures of the snow, I have kind of bogged down this year.  Yea, another snow storm, snow piled high alongside the driveway, dog has to climb the snow pile to 'water' his tree... yada yada.... So what else have I been doing this month?  Well, we had a break-through on Elvis' training!  Afghans are notoriously difficult to teach to

And now... SPRING!

FINALLY! We are in the middle of our first true melt-off for the year, and I feel like celebrating!  I can feel myself shaking off the hum-bug of the winter blues and getting excited about being outside! But first, a recap of February:  The first of the year initiated true winter weather.  We had a fairly moderate fall and even December was nice.  No snow at all before Christmas, and then of course, as soon as I had plans to go down to see my Dad, snow hits the weather forecast.  I made it down but had to delay a day coming home because of the blasted snow.  The weather was clear for the week of mom's funeral, but by the end of January and come February, the temperatures went down into the 0's and we had snow again and again.  Even the first of March was snowy! We did find a few activities to keep our spirits up.  We had decided that after the new year, I really was entitled to a vehicle upgrade, so one Saturday we went car shopping.  I say car, but what I mean is mini van.
