Early Blooms! ~and a bit of venting....

Image
FINALLY!  I have blooming flowers out in my very own lawn!  Late on Friday I noticed that the daffodils were in bud, and with just a suggestion of warmth, they could open soon.... and they have!  Since I am out so little and indoors so much, I asked Jim to cut a few stems for me to enjoy here in the house.  Here are two photos of them;  One shows how NOT to photograph flowers, and the other is much better - you pick.     It is cool, cloudy and windy so the heads are facing down, but if you put them up on a shelf so that they are looking down AT you, they are lovely.  They are making a bright splash in the corner where I have my computer set up. As I watched Jim out picking these, I noticed this little bloom, too:  You have to look down in the very bottom, but there are some tiny grape hyacinths, snug up against the step.  In a while, I will have lots of columbine, too. I am alone again today.  Husband was home for about 5 hours yesterday - in between playing tennis in the morn

Not feeling creative enough for a catchy title, but maybe something will click in later... It has been a few days since my last post and the weather continues to bounce up and down.  Just as my daffodils shoot up and start to form buds, the temperature dropped and they almost froze off... but not quite.  We will have a day or two of temperatures in the 60's and think spring has finally decided to settle in, and then down go the temperatures again and we find ourselves putting on another layer and reaching for the umbrellas. Easter weekend was beautiful - all 3 days.  Aaron came home and had planned a menu for Easter dinner, he did all the shopping AND cooking.  He even bathed the dogs for me!  All 3 of them!  That was possibly a more appreciated gift than the cooking.  I crawled downstairs to talk him through everything and to use the clippers to shave faces on the oldies.  Maija was first, as she is the most challenging.  This dog is almost 11 years old and she hate

Spring.... finally???

Yes, I want to use this blog as a sort of diary, but no one wants to read about my blasted foot all the time!  So now I am going to switch gears and write about time... Seasons, weather, all kinds of things that I CAN do as I recover. We have had the worst winter that I can ever remember - EVER!  and spring has taken it's jolly sweet time arriving.  Seeing all the snow pile up, week after week, month after month... I couldn't imagine that it COULD melt before the first of June!  But it has, thank Goodness!  We had everything all melted off and the grass was even beginning to green up, and considering that I will not be able to groom the dogs, we had Elvis bathed and shaved, ready for summer!                                                                               Then the weather turned.  This is what we saw by late afternoon on April 14th.  How depressing!   But we knew that it couldn't last, it was merely a temporary insult.  That was Monday, and on Tuesday

Progress

Well, it has been 2 weeks since the surgery to repair my broken bones and torn ligaments and things are going well.  The first couple of days were pretty rough!  Yes, I did take the full prescription of pain medications but started backing off of them by day 3, and was pretty well done with them in less than a week.... but since I was taking aspirin to prevent blood clots from forming, I couldn't take ibuprofen, so when I get achy or restless, I still take a small dose. I was really concerned about being in a solid cast, so I talked to my GP about this and he gave me a RX for anxiety.... but the surgeon took pity on me and did not give me a full plaster cast.  I was really happy to see that if I got really panicky I could take almost all of the bandaging off, but I didn't!  And I didn't take any of the anxiety meds, either!  So I was a very good girl ;-) Yesterday was the big day - to go back to the Surgeon's and get the surgical cast removed and see how things are
