Reading...

Since it is summer and my hands have been busy with gardening, I have not been doing a lot of knitting.  Instead, I have been reading.  I am a member of an online group of D E Stephenson admirers, and we usually have a book that we are discussing.  The Yahoo group has just finished talking about her book The Four Graces, and the Facebook group is just starting to read and discuss House on the Cliff.  I usually read the book under discussion, but so often I can't put it down - I just forge through the whole thing in an afternoon or evening!  W e spend a few days discussing each chapter... I occasionally post a comment, but more often I take the opportunity to re-read an old favorite, and check in on the discussion occasionally to see what sidelines they go off on!  Even more than the analysis of the book, I enjoy the aside information and comments.   DE Stevenson enjoyed a long literary career, writing in the UK.  She began in the late 192...

Progress!

Just a quick note on the status of my broken leg, etc.  Interview with Orthopedic surgeon was wonderful, he claims I am making excellent progress.  I may now progress to "putting weight on it as tolerated", and not wearing the cast in bed at night (particularly wonderful). I am still on crutches, though. I'm still going to set out hardy plants this weekend, if Aaron agrees to take me shopping and help me..... Now, on to more philosophical comments.... In the past week I have read a couple of books, both by one of my favorite authors, D.E...

Never never spring

Here it is, almost the first day of spring and there is NO hint of spring anywhere around. Winter didn't really begin here until late January, so I guess we still have to have the full 3 months for winter, whenever.....We have had gloomy days, snow storms, snow showers, warmer weather and rain, flooding... and then snow again!  I am just sick of it! The dogs are confined inside, and most days their only outside time is to toilet - and then I have to let them go out on the deck!   It is the only place that isn't muddy!  And with Afghan Hounds, MUD is to be avoided at all costs.  Fortunately, the week that I had to go down to Dad's, we had snow so they could access their kennel and they stayed clean.  Lucky Jim!  And when I did get home after being away for 4 days, Elvis was not matted and it took me just an hour to comb him out. I won't be so lucky the next time I groom him..... Whenever that might be....  You see, I have done something really stup...
